Cleanliness
Friday, April 25th, 2008The American Society for Microbiology studied the hand-washing habits of Americans and found some disturbing results. The researchers hid in stalls or pretended to comb their hair as they observed 6,333 men and women in rest rooms in five cities.
They found that in New York’s Penn Station only 60 percent of those using rest rooms washed their hands. At a Braves game in Atlanta, 64 percent washed. “Hand washing in this country has become all but a lost art,” said epidemiologist Dr. Michael Osterholm. And that’s not good.
To prevent disease, it is recommended that we wash our hands in the following manner: Use warm or hot running water. Use soap. Wash all surfaces thoroughly, including under the fingernails. Rub hands together for 10 to 15 seconds.
God also has advice on how to be clean—that is, how to be clean within. Our spiritual health depends on it.*
1) Use the alive Word of God. Fresh and anew. Are you getting a fresh word from God every day (in your devotion time) or even every week (at church)?
2) Use the cleansing Blood of Christ. Have you applied the blood of Jesus Christ to your heart and life. Do you claim his cleansing work every day when you arise?
3) Wash all surfaces thoroughly, Do you apply new instruction to every area of your life or are you hiding certain things from God (as if you could). Do you hear the annoited Word and pass it off as for someone else? Are your giving EVERY area of our life to God?
4) Rub hands together Are you “rubbing shoulders” with other Christians at Bible Study, Sunday School, and worship times? They might be able to bring you up closer to Him. You’ve heard the scripture “Iron sharpens Iron”?
Just a few thoughts to consider.
