What is Sigma Chi Mu?

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Sigma Chi Mu is a Greek Acronym for Christ’s One Day Academy.

SXM-logoWe are several homeschool families joining together once a week to share in the teaching of our teenagers. Each mom helps or teaches in the subject she feels most comfortable. We offer classes all the core subjects and some electives for grades 7 and up.

We are just organizing this effort this year and plan to begin classes on September 2 at the Moultrie Library. We are all Christians and classes are taught from a Christian viewpoint.

We welcome others to join us.

It’s Been 17 Years?

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Brett07-20-08aaI am marveling at how it happened that our son has turned 17 years old. It seems like yesterday when I was wobbling around midst the Chattanooga summer heat waiting for our first bundle of joy to arrive. I’ve been planning to blog on this special day (July 23) for a while. But before I had the chance my husband actually said it all in a note to me. With his permission, I’ll share portions of it with you……

The Ten Plagues on Egypt

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I came across this coloring page website while looking for some Exodus
material. Scroll down a little bit to find the Bible Stories under
“Religious”. The other categories may be helpful too. Yes there is
lots of Exodus stuff for those of you teaching those BIble Quiz lessons.

Fabulous Friday this week!

Monday, July 14th, 2008

I’m looking forward to a good time together this Friday!

We’ll be participating in an art contest through the general Church of the Nazarene and the centennial celebration. The contest is open to all children up through 12 years old. Any medium of art is allowed. The theme is “Live to Give”. 18 pictures will be selected to be used in a calendar to be given to all Nazarenes at the General Assembly in Orlando Florida next summer. Wouldn’t it be great if one of ours was selected?

We’ve purchased new and good quality art supplies to help you make beautiful pictures. And Mrs. Susan Musgrove plans to be there to give you instruction on making a great picture.

If you want to start thinking about your drawing/painting, here’s the theme..

“Live to Give”.

Based on the Bible Verse Matthew 5:48 (The Message) “Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.

Show what you think about STEWARDSHIP of money, time, talent, and the care of God’s world.

Plans for Friday

10AM Art workshop at the church (upstairs) – snack provided

Noon – Leave for Ci Cis Pizza in Tifton

1:30p – Bowling at Tift Bowl

4:00 p – Back at the church

There is no cost for kids and adult helpers. Children under 6 must have a personal chaperone.

If you haven’t registered to attend, please call Mrs. Mandy today! You are welcome to bring one friend, but please pre-register so that we arrange for enough pizza, bowling lanes, and transportation.

See you Friday!

TWO BOYS IN TROUBLE

Monday, July 14th, 2008

I’ve heard this little story before. But it always gives me a smile. I thought maybe you would enjoy a smile too!

Mandy ….

Two little boys, ages 8 and 10, are excessively mischievous. They are always getting into trouble and their parents know all about it. If any mischief occurs in their town, the two boys are probably involved.

The boys’ mother heard that a preacher in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys.

The preacher agreed, but he asked to see them individually. So the mother sent the 8 year old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the preacher in the afternoon.

The preacher, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, ‘Do you know where God is, son?’

The boy’s mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there wide-eyed with his mouth hanging open.

So the preacher repeated the question in an even sterner tone, ‘Where is God?!’

Again, the boy made no attempt to answer. The preacher raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy’s face and bellowed, ‘Where is God?!’

The boy screamed &bolted from the room, ran directly home &dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him.

When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, ‘What happened?’ The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, ‘We are in BIG trouble this time.

‘GOD is missing, and they think we did it!’

Follow the Leader?

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Wow! We might all be in trouble now.  :)

As you probably know, the new Bible Quizzing book tiltle is”Follow the Leader”.   Of course, it’s referring to Moses, which is a very good leader to follow. I’m excited about this study all about Moses. Wow! Did God ever work in this guy’s life!

Here’s the news though . . .  I’ve been asked to step in for Cindy Carter as the SW Zone Quizmaster!  Cindy doesn’t have any children’s quizzers this year and she is busy with so much. So she has asked to be relieved of this position.

Steve and Ronda Grundy, state quizmasters, have asked if I would take on this ministry. So here we go!  I hope that it will be a great year for everyone!

For starters … here’s a link to a Bible memory program made just for us. It will quiz you each day on a verse until you get it right, then move on to the next one. Go sign up and be sure to select the Nazarene Church Exodus set and then choose NIV.

www.Biblememory.us

Happy Memory Work!

P.S. For those of you not involved in quizzing… There are many memory programs to choose from, so go pick one. There is nothing better for you to do than hide God’s word in your heart!
