Trading Cards are a Big Hit

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

The last few years, we have used a purchased plan for our Fall Festival. It was a lot of fun and having a Bible Theme was just what we wanted. We were able to share the gospel with alot of children that maybe haven’t heard it before. These Fall Festival packages included simple trading cards that gave a picture of the Bible Hero and had the Bible Lesson on the back.

This year, we did the Trunk or Treat. What fun it was!  Everyone enjoyed this and it was actually much easier on me. We wanted a way to get the gospel out to the children though. We remembered the trading cards and that the children seemed to like the idea of collecting them. So, I went looking for trading cards. What I found was beautiful, sturdy cards from Bible Quest. These cards, which have 33 different cards per set are wonderful just to have on their own. The cards have the Bible lesson on the back; however, there is a wonderful interactive website that goes along with the cards.

Children sign in and can register all the cards they have. On each card is a key icon. If you acquire three cards with the same key, you will have the passwords to open new areas on the web game. The web game gives you more information on the people, but also archeological information as well.

We gave these out to the children at Fall Festival and I am now giving them out when they attend Sunday School and Bible Study.  I also, decided that this was a good prize for scripture memory rather than ribbons that clutter their rooms.

At present, there are 3 different sets of 33 cards. Cards can be purchased at Christian book store in packets of three at 99 cents. Or you can buy a set for about $10; however, I have been fortunate to find them online on sale for $5.

The Ten Commandments

Friday, November 21st, 2008

I found a cool card game based on the Ten Commandments. The game is played like Go fish. Each card has questions that help the children apply a specific commandment to their own life. My kids really enjoyed playing and we had some great discussions about right and wrong.  Check it out here ….  Moses Knows the Ten Commandments

36312: Ten Commandments Card Game Ten Commandments Card GameBy David C. CookDo you want your children to really learn the Ten Commandments—not simply memorize them? Here are 100 questions and answers to help kids gain a deeper understanding of biblical principles. Some questions are specific, while others require thoughtful consideration of God’s laws: “John cared about money more than anything else. What commandment did he break?” Fun for all ages!

Exodus from Egypt is a board game that I am very curious to try out, but haven’t yet. I looks like it would be informative and fun as well.

This exciting board game lets you experience the ups and downs of God’s people as they pass through the Red Sea, witness the budding of Aaron’s staff, receive the Ten Commandments, cross the Jordan River, and more. Two to four players, ages 8 and up.

Go to this site for a great little before and after quiz. It’s just a list of “commandments” where the child will decide whether or not each commandment given is indeed one of the TEN.
